HVAC Training Program

2nd Year

  • Mathematics - reading formulas, using formulas, changing decimals and fractions, square root, areas, the steel square.
  • Shop Work - the use and care of shop equipment, the standard hand brake, universal box and pan brake, rotary machines, combination and special purpose, the squaring shear, slip form rolls.
  • Layout & Pattern Development & Fabrication - parallel line, round pipe elbows, round tees, round offsets, duct transitions, duct change elbows, change & drop offsets, triangulation from an elevation view, introduction of radial lines, shop methods for square to rounds, round tapers.
  • Craftsmanship - improving the skill of soldering.
  • Field Installation - moving heavy equipment.
  • Safety on the Job - duct hangers, coordinating a duct job.
  • Safety - fire hazards, fire codes.
  • Materials - special types of sheet metal, fasteners & anchors, grilles, diffusers and registers.
  • Introduction to Blowpipe - blueprint reading, sheet metal drafting & sketching, the parts of a set of blueprints, scales & lines, orthographic projection, terminology of the parts used in wood frame construction.
  • Architectural Sheet Metal - materials of architectural sheet metal, seams & locks of architectural sheet metal gutter and gutter design, flashings.
  • Residential Heating & Air Conditioning - working in a client’s home, cutting holes, working around electricity, piping.
  • Service Work - types of furnaces, basic electricity low voltage & millivolt burner controls.
